The Truth behind Climate Change Mike Gozian Climate (10-31-19).doc Climate change is yet another topic that is purposely distorted for financial and political gain. The people in power love the status quo. It’s why they created the status quo in the first place. So, when it comes to change, they have the most to lose. The energy companies (mostly oil and coal) are terrified of change. It disrupts their process and cuts their profits. Their biggest argument is that this is a tax and it will be bad for the economy. Nothing could be more untrue. By developing a whole new industry, we will create a vast number of new businesses. When cars were first introduced, the horse and buggy industries were terrified – just as terrified as today’s energy companies. There were many who thought that powered automobiles would be a disaster to the economy. We would never recover. Needless to say, that didn’t happen. The automobiles industry soon became 25% of GDP. Who doesn’t want change? The people who built and support the status quo; particularly oil companies and politicians. Why do energy companies spread this lie?... - because they would need to compete with an entire new industry. Why do politicians spread this lie?... - because the energy companies have tremendous political influence – more influence than the environmental companies that are just starting up. The oil companies have a lot to lose. What’s your highest utility bill? Electricity, water, phone? None of these. Your number one cost (next to rent) is most likely gasoline for your automobile. I assure you that you would be more conscious about what you spend on gas if you had to write a check to Exxon each month for $200. Furthermore, most politicians have direct ties to big oil. How else would a private company be able to profit from taking something that’s not theirs and selling it for huge profits while destroying our environment? As we know, most republicans don’t believe in climate change. But that wasn’t always the case. As a matter of fact, this was a big campaign issue for Bush 1. It was his Chief of Staff, John Sununu, who had strong ties to the energy industry and worked to convince the public that global warming was a myth. His goal at deceiving public, and, in particular, the republican party, worked. (It was at this time when they switched the term from Global Warming to Climate Change. They thought that ‘climate change’ would confuse people because it implies that the environment might actually be getting colder.) Let me put it this way… * If the environmental industry had the same influence in government as the oil companies, then politicians would support the environmental industry instead. * If Peace had a more powerful lobby than War, we would have Peace. * If Getting Healthy donated more to political campaigns than Big Pharma, then we’d be Healthier. If you believe that building a new environmental industry is bad, then you are letting the business and political establishment influence your opinions. Don’t be brainwashed. Personally, I don’t know what all the fuss is about. My annuals don’t die in the winter and my daffodils start blooming in December! Mike Gozian
